The Common Sense of Energy Use I believe it is imperative; now is is the time for everyone to be involved in the future of our nation. We are being pushed and pulled by a government that tells us to be afraid, very afraid, of "terrorists" while at the same time they say we should "live normally, travel and spend."
There is a very real danger we face - religious fanatics and their terrorist allies who have sworn to destroy us. We are at war. It is not a "war on terror". It is a war to preserve our freedom and civilization. What is at stake is the safety and future of our families, friends, children, grandchildren...and generations beyond. This is not a time for tax cuts, for sacrifice of the few for the many, for giving brave soldiers shoddy equipment, for politicized generals, for awarding no-bid contracts that bilk taxpayers and deplete our treasury, for lies and deception, for political bickering and vicious partisanship... This is a time to assert that "We the People", are, by our Constitution, the government. It is time to take back our country from politicians whose votes and loyalties have been bought by "special interests". It is time to stop listening to a failed and controlled media that beats the drum of fear, and partisan, babbling pundits who tell us what to think. It is time to expose political party hacks and multi-national corporations whose interests are ego, greed and power, and whose loyalties are not vested within our borders or with our people. All of these elements combine to steal our democracy. And, for the most part, "We the People" are silent because we think we cannot affect our future. BUT WE CAN! The question is, where and how to start? ... more |
It's not funny any more... We liberals have been having a good laugh at the bumbling, apparent idiocy of our current President, George - W for Worst Ever - Bush. Sure, we've written letters and signed petitions, we gather together and talk endlessly about just how bad it is, send what money we have left to help victims of disasters and famines; we speculate on how much worse it can get... and we try to hold on until we can get this administration out and someone - hell, almost anyone - else in office.
What has happened in the six years since W has been in office, and has he helped or exacerbated existing problems? He began his term with a balanced national budget. Now, we're in the greatest debt this country has ever faced, and there's no end in sight. It doesn't matter to W, because HE is rich. His friends are rich. His companies are rich, and his friends' companies are getting all the governmental project awards. Of course things look good to him. We're in a war which was illegal - not just unfounded, but based on lies and revenge. And our sons and daughters are dying because of it. But that's only the tip of the iceberg - that is, the shrinking icebergs in the seas - global warming. If global warming wasn't serious enough, now there's "Global Dimming"... more... |
| Burning Gods: Fear and Free Speech in America What do you think of flag-burners? Of those who feel so much hatred for the United States that they feel compelled to burn, publicly, the symbol of our unity? Sometimes it makes me really quite angry, other times, it simply makes me sad. As an American, I love my country. And, despite the growing political takeover of those who would suppress everything but the Christian outlook, I do still feel this is MY country, too.

The Real Rape of America Our co-presidents tell us their actions are to protect us from attack by terrorists like those on 9-11. But what is the REAL threat here? We've had little or no terrorist activity in the US, but what we have had is the illegal wiretapping of thousands of Americans, illegal surveillance of tens of thousands of Americans, and illegal investigations and detentions of hundreds of Americans and foreign nationals who have NO record of dissent, let alone a record of anything which could be remotely called terrorist activity. Yet there has been no concerted outcry, really, against this. And now, the cowboy coalition has signed into law a decree that all government agencies will be overseen by POLITICAL appointees. Let there be dark. The Republican-led Congress had done nothing to curb the reckless abandon with which the Bush co-presidents figuratively and literally pillage and rape our country - and that means each of us, as Americans, are being raped. RAPED. The word itself tastes bad. RAPE. Rape is a serious abuse of power, plain and simple. more... |
Katrina's Lessons
I
just don't get it. Why, in the richest nation in the world, do we permit abject poverty to exist? Why, when most of us in this country live in homes which would be considered luxurious by the standards of much of the world, do we not find it in our hearts and wallets to help those who cannot manage to buy their medicines, or feed their children? How can we call ourselves civilized? As we sit watching our cable tv coverage of yet another disaster, we feel horror and outrage. We jump up and run to our computers and sign petitions sent to our lawmakers, demanding they do 'something'. We give money to the Red Cross, or other organizations trying desperately to stop the dying, and save the living. And then we feel better. We did our part, didn't we? No, we didn't. more |
